Typhoon Chan-hom is expected to lash Japan during the country’s Obon-summer holidays. 

Typhoon Chan-hom is currently over the waters east of Japan and is moving from east to west.

The typhoon is very likely to make landfall after the evening on August 11.

If it makes landfall in Fukushima or Ibaraki Prefectures, it would be the first since records began.

Winds of up to 35 meters per second are forecasted in the Kanto and Tohoku regions.

Rainfall from August 11 through August 12 is expected to reach 150 millimeters in Tohoku and 120 millimeters in the Kanto region.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant for landslides and high waves caused by the heavy rain, and to be prepared for possible disruptions to public transportation.
