Self-claimed Thais arrested for attacks on police who fire gun in Chiba
Two men, both claiming to be Thai nationals, have been arrested in Chiba Prefecture, east of Tokyo.
Police were investigating three suspicious mini cars parked on a sidewalk in the city of Asahi on the afternoon of June 13.
They were asking questions to a man who was inside one of the cars when he started resisting violently, so they arrested him on the spot on suspicion of obstructing public duties.
During the questioning, another man drove a separate car toward the scene, prompting a police officer to fire a gun three times toward the vehicle.
The driver fled the scene in the car but turned himself in to the police later in the day.
The second suspect sustained minor injuries to his shoulder from the gun shots.
He is suspected of trying to kill two police officers but has denied intent to kill.
