Mother arrested in Bangkok for trafficking preteen daughter in Tokyo

A woman was arrested in Bangkok, Thailand.

S/ Tanaka Junpei, NNN Reporter / The girl’s mother has just arrived at a Thai government facility. She will undergo questioning.

She is suspected of trafficking her own daughter in Tokyo.

In June of this year, the woman visited Japan with her then 12-year-old daughter.

The mother abandoned the girl at a relaxation parlor in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward and returned to Thailand.

The girl was reportedly forced to provide sexual services at the parlor.

This is what she has told Japanese police.

S/ Girl (voice reenactment) / I thought if I didn’t work, my family wouldn’t be able to survive, so I had no choice but to endure it.

In October, the mother was detained in Taiwan on suspicion of involvement in prostitution.

She was transferred to Thailand on December 23 and arrested over alleged offenses including human trafficking.

The girl, who is in protective custody in Japan, is expected to return to Thailand early next year.

Tokyo police have arrested the man who ran the relaxation parlor on suspicion of forcing the girl to provide sexual services.

Authorities are also investigating the possibility of an organized network of brokers behind the case.
