More Tokara islanders evacuate as quakes total over 1,590

A second batch of 46 people evacuating from islands in southwestern Japan arrived by ferry in the city of Kagoshima on July 6 as powerful earthquakes continued to rock the islands.
More than 1,590 quakes occurred between June 21 and 10 a.m. on July 7 near the Tokara islands administered by the village of Toshima, Kagoshima Prefecture.
S/ Evacuee from Kodakarajima / It's a relief to be able to evacuate to a safe place. I pray that those remaining on the island will not be injured, that there will be no damage and that the earthquakes will calm down soon.
A total of 44 people from Akusekijima and 15 from Kodakarajima have evacuated so far.
Toshima village officials said 23 residents remain on Akusekijima and 41 on Kodakarajima.
The Japan Meteorological Agency continues to warn islanders to beware of powerful temblors.
Shaking of upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of up to 7 was observed on Akusekijima island twice on July 6 and once in the early hours of July 7.
