Security camera LED lights in train cars

Tokyu Railways has installed a new type of security cameras in all train cars in an attempt to prevent crime and improper conduct.

The cameras and data communication equipment are built into LED fluorescent lights. They give officials the ability to remotely observe what occurs in all 1,247 train cars.

Installing the devices took a third of the time needed to mount the same number of conventional security cameras as only the fluorescent lamps had to be replaced.

The cameras are powered by electricity from the light fixtures.

Officials at SoftBank who collaborated with the rail operator in installing the security system say the cameras can also be used in monitoring nursing homes and supermarkets.
