Soja city in western Japan gives away used office items to residents
A clock on the wall is barely visible as it is covered with lottery number slips.
The numbers are similarly stuck on tables and other furniture.
The city of Soja in Okayama Prefecture held a lottery on August 20 to give away the items for free to residents.
They were used by Soja city hall before it moved to a new building.
S/ Soja city government official / We purchased these items using tax money, so we want to give them back to residents as much as possible. It's a bit of an SDGs effort, and we hope people will make use of the items.
More than 1,500 items were up for grabs.
The most coveted one was the mayor's chair, with 114 people seeking to get hold of it.
The chair, used by the current and past mayors, symbolizes the helm of Soja city.
The result of the lottery has been announced on the city's official website.
