Portable charger catches fire on Tokyo train, woman injured
A portable charger caught fire aboard a train on May 18, injuring a nearby passenger.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, the incident occurred at around 7:30AM on a train on the Tokyu Ikegami Line in Shinagawa Ward.
Police say the fire started from a portable charger inside the backpack of a male middle school student.
Passengers aboard the train managed to extinguish the fire.
However, a woman in her 60s standing nearby suffered burns to her arm.
Following the incident, services on the Tokyu Ikegami Line were temporarily suspended.
Train operations were resumed soon after.
