Osaka expo suspends water show after high levels of legionella detected
The water show at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka was suspended after legionella bacteria of up to 20 times the legal standard were detected in the water.
The high level of contamination was found at the Water Plaza on June 4. Organizers disinfected the water and conducted tests again on June 6.
However, it announced to cancel the daytime and night water shows because the bacteria levels remained high.
Legionella bacteria can cause pneumonia and other illnesses when inhaled.
Organizers plan to investigate the cause of the increase of the bacteria levels and suspend the shows until the water quality improves.
