Missing US tourist found dead in Kyoto mountains, police say no foul play suspected
Twenty-year-old American James “Weston” Higginbotham went missing in Kyoto in late May when he was visiting the ancient Japanese capital with his family.
Japanese police and fire officials said his body was discovered in a mountainous area in Kyoto's Yamashina Ward on the afternoon of June 6 and they confirmed his identity the following day.
Police said no foul play is suspected in this case.
Higginbotham's family expressed grief on social media and thanked everyone who helped in the search efforts.
On May 29, Higginbotham went out alone from the hotel he was staying at.
He was last seen that night on security camera footage, walking on a street in Yamashina Ward, and then went missing.
The following day, his family filed a missing person report with the police.
