Heatstroke alert issued for 25 of Japan's 47 prefectures as temperatures soar
Japan continued to experience dangerously high temperatures on July 15.
Typhoon Bavi has transformed into an extratropical cyclone over the Sea of Japan, while tropical air flowed into the Japanese archipelago and brought intense heat to many regions.
Temperatures soared to 38 degrees Celsius or above in parts of Shizuoka, Nagano and Ehime prefectures and topped 37 degrees in parts of central and western Japan including Yamanashi, Aichi and Kochi prefectures.
Authorities are urging people to take extreme caution against heatstroke in affected areas.
Heatstroke alerts have been issued for 25 of Japan’s 47 prefectures, ranging from the Tohoku region in the northeast to Kyushu in the southwest.
The Kanto region centered on Tokyo has been placed under heatstroke alert across the entire area for the first time this year.
Temperatures surpassed 34 degrees in central Tokyo, 35 degrees in the Tokyo suburbs and 36 degrees in some inland areas of Gunma, Ibaraki and Saitama prefectures.
Authorities are urging people to thoroughly follow heatstroke prevention measures, such as using air conditioning and staying well hydrated.
