The lower house speaker noted that in future reviews of the system, there is a need to make some additional provisions to the supplementary resolution section that addresses the matter.

The outline specifies that female members would be allowed to remain in the imperial family after marriage.

It also calls for the creation of a new chapter in the Imperial House Law that would make an exception to the current ban on adoption by imperial family members to allow the adoption of male descendants in the male line of former imperial branch families.

With the approval of the outline, the government plans to approve the revision bill at a Cabinet meeting as early as June 30 and submit it to the Diet with the aim to passing the bill during the current parliamentary session.

However, opposition parties including the Constitutional Democratic Party have raised objections, while the Japan Innovation Party of the ruling coalition has also asserted that the provision limiting eligible adoptees to males aged 15 and older should be removed.
