Japan PM Takaichi expresses willingness to enact anti-spy law

S/ Kamiya Sohei, Sanseito leader / To repel foreign interference, I believe enacting an anti-spy law is an urgent matter. Could you share your thoughts on moving forward with such legislation?

S/ Takaichi Sanae, Prime Minister / We need to address various risks that could disrupt Japan’s social stability or undermine democracy. I want to consider measures to protect Japan from foreign forces.

The exchange took place at a session of the House of Councillors budget committee on November 13.

Sanseito party leader Kamiya Sohei also asked if the government plans to review the number of foreign nationals that Japan accepts and tighten the requirements for naturalization.

Takaichi responded that she has instructed the justice minister to carry out a basic review of Japan’s acceptance policies and consider stricter naturalization requirements.

She said the government will aim to present a basic direction on these policies toward foreigners by January.
