Tokyo police arrest 7 over 420M yen robbery linked to yakuza

The Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department arrested seven suspects including a yakuza executive in connection with a series of incidents where more than 400 million yen in cash were robbed.

According to police, the seven suspects are alleged to have sprayed pepper spray near the victim’s face while stealing a suitcase that contained about 423 million yen in cash in Tokyo in January 2026.

While police have not disclosed whether the suspects have admitted to the charges, it reportedly seized items such as balaclavas believed to have been used in the crime during searches of related locations.

Two and a half hours after the incident, a male currency exchanger and others were nearly robbed of approximately 190 million yen in cash at Haneda Airport.

Part of that cash was stolen in Hong Kong.

The perpetrators of the Haneda Airport crime are believed to have switched to a different vehicle in Kanagawa Prefecture and remain at large.

Police plan to continue questioning the seven suspects while investigating any connection to the incident at Haneda Airport.
