Atomic bomb survivor Mori passes away, having met then US President Obama in 2016

Atomic bomb survivor Mori Shigeaki has passed away. He was 88 years old.
Mori experienced the atomic bombing in Hiroshima in 1945 when he was 8.
After World War II, he spent about 50 years researching American soldiers who died in the bombing as prisoners of war and identified 12 of them.
In recognition of this achievement, Mori met with then US President Barack Obama in Hiroshima in 2016.
Mori maintained contact with the families of the American soldiers he researched and advocated for peace across national borders.

Mori passed away on March 14 at a hospital in Hiroshima.
A memorial service is planned for a later date.
