According to the transport ministry’s Naha Airport office, an Air Self-Defense Force F-15 fighter jet encountered a problem while landing and came to a stop in a tilted position shortly before 1 p.m. on August 18.

The incident occurred on Runway B, which is located offshore and is one of two runways at Naha Airport in Okinawa Prefecture.

Multiple Japanese government officials said the aircraft was a single-seat fighter jet.

They said the pilot escaped, and no injuries were reported.

The fighter jet is believed to have become unable to move after a component near its left landing gear broke upon landing.

Fire engines and other emergency vehicles gathered around the aircraft, causing a temporary commotion at the airport.

Due to the closure of Runway B, commercial airplanes used the airport's other runway, Runway A, for takeoffs and landings.
