Thief faces second arrest, says Japanese people are easy to pickpocket
This moment was filmed in front of an Osaka Metro elevator.
A man is seen touching the other person’s backpack from behind.
When the person moves forward, a wallet can be seen in the man’s hand.
The security camera caught a pickpocketing incident in June of this year.
The man stole a wallet containing about 35,000 yen in cash, around 237 US dollars.
He was spotted in neighboring Nara the following day.
The man approached from behind and pickpocketed another wallet.
In July, the thief was seen at the Osaka Expo where crowds of visitors gathered.
On this particular day, the man was seen with another individual and stole a wallet containing about 120,000 yen or roughly 814 dollars.
The police arrested a 41-year-old Chinese national on the suspicion of theft.
According to investigators, the man said Japanese people have low awareness of crime prevention and are easy to steal from, so he repeatedly came to Japan to pickpocket and make a living.
Police are looking into the whereabouts of the collaborator and whether the man participated in similar crimes.
