Japan PM Takaichi holds call with Iran president after ceasefire deal

Japan’s Prime Minister Takaichi Sanae held a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on April 8.
The call lasted about 25 minutes, starting at 4:00 p.m.
After the talks, Takaichi told reporters that they discussed the recent U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement, ways to de-escalate tensions, and securing safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
They also exchanged views on ensuring safe passage for Japan-related vessels.
Takaichi reaffirmed her determination to lead diplomatic efforts, while also urging swift resolution regarding the issue surrounding a Japanese detained national.
