Japan railway introduces seats for work and study in new bullet train

East Japan Railway introduced a new bullet train model set to begin operation in fiscal 2030 in a Tokyo press conference on March 4.

The new E10 series train will run on the Tohoku shinkansen line, which travels from Tokyo to northeastern Japan.

It will be the first time in 19 years that JR East has introduced a new train model to the route.

The exterior of the E10 trains is a green color reminiscent of the natural landscapes in the northeast region and the horizontal lines are curved based on the image of cherry blossom petals.

The new design also incorporates a train car made for passengers looking to work or study with spacious seats separated by a partition.

All seats are designed to have a power outlet.

The railway company is also looking to eventually connect the Tohoku line to Sapporo in Japan’s northernmost main island through the Hokkaido line that is currently under construction.
