Police officer implicated in Hideyoshi statue decapitation in Nagoya

A statue of 16th century warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi installed at a shopping district in Nagoya was found with its head removed in August.

Police have been investigating the case as vandalism.

According to investigative sources, security camera footage and other evidence have led to suspicions that a male officer from Ehime prefectural police and a man from Nagoya were involved.

Aichi prefectural police plan to refer the property damage case to prosecutors without arresting the suspects.

The two men are believed to have grabbed the reinforced plastic statue’s head with both hands and twisted it until the neck broke.
