Nagasaki marked 81 years since the US atomic bombing on August 9.

Representatives from 98 countries, including six nuclear-armed states such as the United States, Israel and Russia, attended the Peace Memorial Ceremony in the city this year.

2,773 people, whose deaths were confirmed over the past year, were added to the list of atomic bomb victims, bringing the total number of victims of the Nagasaki bombing to 204,708.

Nagasaki Mayor Suzuki Shiro said during his speech that the more countries rely on nuclear deterrence, the greater the risk of nuclear war becomes.

He also strongly called on the Japanese government to uphold the Three Non-Nuclear Principles and to shift to a security policy that does not rely on nuclear weapons.
