Nissan to cease car production at Oppama Plant by March 2028
S/ Ivan Espinosa, Nissan CEO/ This decision, especially for the employees working at the Oppama plant, involves considerable hardship. It was a difficult decision for both myself and the company.
Nissan announced on July 15 that it will end car production at its Oppama plant in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture by March 2028 and relocate scheduled production to its Kyushu plant in Fukuoka Prefecture.
The automobile company said it will not conduct any more consolidation or reduction of its domestic manufacturing plants.
Nissan will continue employment of its Oppama plant employees until March 2028, but some employees remain concerned.

Yokosuka Mayor Kamiji Katsuaki expressed disappointment in the decision to close the plant that is a source of employment in the city.
The mayor also asked that Nissan explain what it intends to do with the plant site after closure and quickly announce its plans.
