Crown Princess Kiko Princess Kako visit A-bomb memorial
Crown Princess Kiko and daughter Princess Kako visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial on the morning August 11, and each offered white flowers while paying their respects.
This year marks the 80th anniversary of the atomic bomb dropping on Hiroshima, and is the first time Princess Kako has visited the memorial to pay her respects since 2002.
At the park, they also saw the Children's Peace Monument that served as the model for the musical “Peace on Your Wings” that they saw on August 10.
Afterwards, they visited the a-bomb survivors' nursing home, Funairi Mutsumi-en, where elderly A-bomb survivors live, and interacted with them while folding origami.
The two picked up origami doves to be distributed during the children's peace education program, where survivors would share their experiences of the atomic bombing.
Crown Princess Kiko said they should send them off with their wishes, and everyone made the origami doves flap their wings.
When talking with a resident who is a fan of the baseball team the Hiroshima Toyo Carp, Princess Kako commented that she’s the same age as Shohei Ohtani.
