Glico runner sign in Osaka's Dotonbori area to be renewed as 7th design debuts in spring 2027

Osaka’s Dotonbori area is known for the iconic Glico runner sign, one of the western Japanese city’s most popular tourist attractions.

The current sign is the sixth generation, unveiled in 2014, and has watched over the streets of Osaka for 12 years.

Ezaki Glico made an announcement.

S/ Ezaki Glico President Office representative / The sign will be renewed by incorporating advanced LED technology.

The Osaka-based snack maker said it decided to renew the sign as the current LED bulbs are aging.

The first Glico sign was put up in 1935.

Since then, the landmark has evolved for nine decades.

The current sixth generation was the first to use LED lights instead of conventional neon.

What does the seventh-generation sign look like?

S/ Ezaki Glico President Office representative / It’s been decided, but we’d like to keep it a secret for now. For the 7th generation as well, we want to cherish the runner mark.

The famous runner will remain.

The sixth-generation sign will complete its role on November 30, and the seventh-generation sign will make its debut next spring
