The driver of a truck that fell into a sinkhole in Saitama Prefecture in January was found dead in a sewer pipe on May 2.

Firefighters entered the sewer pipe to retrieve what is believed to be the body of the truck driver that was found in the driver’s seat that was stuck in the sewer pipe.

They transported the body to the police station for final identification procedures.

The bereaved family commented through the then 74-year-old driver’s workplace that he was a strong-hearted person, and the family was sure he fought against fear and pain and wanted to make it home alive until he ran out of strength.

The family said they cannot believe or accept that the victim, whom they loved so much, has suddenly disappeared.
