Britain's Prince of Wales aircraft carrier arrives in Tokyo as part of security ties

Britain's Prince of Wales aircraft carrier arrived in Tokyo for its first time on August 28.

The state-of-the-art vessel of the Royal Navy is about 280 meters long, with a displacement of approximately 65,000 tons.

The Prince of Wales left its home base of Portsmouth in April and stopped at a port in Yokosuka, Kanagawa Prefecture from August 12 to 28 before heading to Tokyo.

S/ Reporter / The Prince of Wales, carrying fighter jets and helicopters, is sailing through Tokyo Bay. That is the Umihotaru parking area. The aircraft carrier is proceeding slowly on the sea.

This is the second time for a carrier strike group from the United Kingdom to dock in Japan, following the Queen Elizabeth in 2021, and its first time in Tokyo.

The visit is part of defense cooperation between Japan and Britain.

Some events are scheduled during the Prince of Wales’s port call in Tokyo until September 2.
