US Military in Okinawa suspends personnel after marine arrest

Following the arrest of a US marine stationed in Okinawa on suspicion of robbery and murder, US forces in Okinawa announced that all US military personnel stationed there would be suspended from duty for 48 hours.

Lieutenant General Watson, the Okinawa area coordinator and commanding general of III Marine Expeditionary Force, announced on October 6 that all US military personnel stationed in Okinawa would be suspended from duty for 48 hours from noon on October 7.

He described the 48-hour period as a time to reflect on discipline, standards, and alliance responsibilities.

During this period, personnel will be prohibited from leaving their bases and from consuming alcohol, both on and off base.

For the following 30 days, all service members will be prohibited from leaving their quarters between midnight and 5AM.
