Japan's new night train to be launched in spring 2027

East Japan Railway announced on June 10 that it will start operating a new nocturnal train in spring of 2027.

All seats will be of first-class level and come in private spaces for one to four passengers each.

The operator will convert an express train currently in use on the Joban Line into the nocturnal train.

It will paint the train in two different shades of blue, including midnight blue.

It plans to run the train between the Tokyo metropolitan area and the northern Tohoku area. JR East said it will further plan the details including the price and schedule of the train.
