Couple arrested over facilitating illegal entry of Chinese babysitter to Japan

Tokyo police have arrested a 39-year-old man and his 37-year-old wife for allegedly facilitating the illegal entry of a Chinese babysitter to Japan.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the two are suspected of filing a visa application for a Chinese national with false information in 2023 and having the individual work as a babysitter.

The case came to light after authorities received a tip that wealthy Chinese people had their children live in Tokyo's Minato Ward and that a babysitter there was engaging in activities outside the scope of their visa status.

The suspects are believed to have provided support to wealthy Chinese nationals relocating to Japan and arranged to dispatch babysitters to clients who wanted their children to receive a high standard of education.

Police said both suspects have denied the allegations.
