Sightseeing boat collides into pier at Numazu Port in Shizuoka, central Japan
This footage shows a sightseeing boat that entered a harbor in central Japan crashing into a pier and emitting smoke.
The accident occurred at Numazu Port in Shizuoka Prefecture at about 3:30 p.m. on October 5.
A total of 15 passengers and crew members sustained injuries.
According to the local fire department and other officials, the vessel named “Chidori” is operated by Chidori Kanko Kisen, a maritime tourism company based in Numazu.
“Chidori” had just completed a tour and returned to the port when its bow struck a pier wall.
About 40 people were on the boat at the time.
The injured individuals were taken to hospital, but none of them were in life-threatening condition.
A local Japan Coast Guard office is investigating the cause of the accident.
