How was the human rights of a 12-year-old girl deprived of?

Police arrested a massage parlor operator on suspicion of illegally employing a 12-year-old Thai girl at the store. The girl is believed to have been brought to Japan for sexual exploitation.

According to police, the girl arrived in Japan in June 2025 with her mother. Two weeks later, the mother handed the girl over to the massage parlor and returned to Thailand alone. 

The girl had reportedly slept in the corner of the kitchen and gave sexual massage to customers at the shop against her will.

She reportedly served around 60 customers in about a month and earned over 620,000 yen. After the shop took its cut, the remaining amount was sent to associates of her mother.

After leaving Japan, the mother visited Taiwan in September and was detained in October on suspicion of involvement in prostitution. She is currently held in a Taiwanese immigration detention facility on suspicion of illegal stay. 

The mother is suspected of forcing the girl to work to repay debts. 

The girl also said that she thought she had no choice but to endure the situation, as she thought her family would not be able to live if she did not work, according to investigators.

We spoke with relatives in Thailand. 

＊Relative　/The mother was deep in debt. She borrowed 200,000 baht. It cost money to give birth.’

The family members said that the mother reportedly had debts totaling nearly 1 million yen. Why did she visit Taiwan? 

＊Relative　/She went to Taiwan to earn money for her kid’s plane ticket. She did not sell her daughter.

Was the mother planning to return to her daughter? She is expected to be repatriated to Japan or Thailand once discussions between Japanese and Thai authorities are finalized.
