Toyota and Waymo to collaborate on self-driving technology
Toyota Motor and US autonomous driving technology firm Waymo have agreed to collaborate on advancing self-driving technologies.
The two companies announced that they will aim to develop a new autonomous driving platform by combining Toyota's car manufacturing knowledge and Waymo's self-driving technology.
Waymo, a subsidiary of Google's parent company Alphabet, currently operates autonomous taxis in parts of the United States including San Francisco and Los Angeles.
It said data gathered from the operation show that the self-driving taxis are safer than human-driven ones.
In the future, Toyota cars are planned to be used as Waymo's autonomous taxis.
The Japanese automaker said it will work toward realizing a safe and secure mobility society.
