Magnitude-5.9 quake strikes Japan' southern Okinawa and Amami regions
A magnitude 5.9-earthquake struck the Amami and Okinawa regions at around 11:46AM on May 20.
An earthquake recording a lower 5 on Japan’s seismic intensity scale was recorded in southern Amami, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
Quakes with a seismic intensity of 3 on the country’s scale was observed in northern Amami, northern Okinawa Main Island, and central and southern parts of Okinawa Main Island.
The epicenter was located in waters off Okinawa Island, and the quake occurred at a depth of approximately 50 kilometers.
The Japan Meteorological Agency says there is no tsunami risk from this earthquake.
