Japanese snack manufacturer simplifies packages amid ongoing Middle East crisis
Japanese snack food company Calbee’s popular snack, Kappa Ebisen, debuted its new monochrome packaging in supermarkets on June 1.
The new package uses only black-and-white printing. The design itself has been simplified as well, leaving only the shrimp illustration at the center.
According to the snack manufacturer, the change was made to help ensure a stable supply of products amid disruptions in the procurement of printing ink and other materials as the Middle East crisis continues.
Similar measures are being adopted by other manufacturers.
Fujiya, known for products such as Country Ma’am and Home Pie, has reportedly informed its business partners that it will reduce the number of colors used on product packaging beginning in July.
