Princess Aiko to Visit Osaka Expo in May
Princess Aiko, the only child of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, will make her first visit to the World Expo in Osaka next month.
The Imperial Household Agency announced on April 24 that the princess will visit the Expo on May 8 and 9.
This will be Princess Aiko's first visit to the World Expo, taking place in Osaka, western Japan. Her last solo regional public engagement was in October of last year, when she visited Saga Prefecture in southwestern Japan for the National Sports Festival.
During her visit to the expo, Princess Aiko is scheduled to tour the Japan Pavilion and the Grand Roof Ring. She will also visit the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement Pavilion, operated by the Japanese Red Cross Society where she works.
She also plans to visit the Electric Power Pavilion, the Singapore Pavilion, the Commons-A Pavilion which is a joint pavilion of several countries, and the EARTH MART pavilion, which focuses on food.
The opening ceremony of the Expo was held on April 12, attended by the Emperor and Empress, and Crown Prince Fumihito and Crown Princess Kiko. Emperor Naruhito delivered a speech at the ceremony.
