Tesla aims to launch AI-powered driver assist system in Japan
S/ Mori Ayaka, NTV Reporter / The light just turned green. The car started moving, but the driver is not operating it.
As carmakers compete fiercely in the field of autonomous driving, Tesla is aiming to introduce its AI-based driver assistance system in Japan.
The American electric vehicle manufacturer's driver-assist feature uses eight cameras mounted on the vehicle to provide a 360-degree view.
The AI analyzes information such as traffic signal colors and pedestrian movements and then operates the steering wheel, accelerator and brakes according to the situation.
Drivers can take their hands off the wheel, but they are required to constantly monitor their surroundings for safety.
Some Tesla cars that are already on the road will be able to use this feature by installing software via the internet.
S/ Hashimoto Richi, Tesla Japan Country Manager / We collect all information from vehicles in motion as data and apply it to enhance safety. A defining feature of Tesla is that it is always up-to-date and always maintains safe operating conditions.
Tesla Japan plans to continue refining the system to comply with Japanese traffic regulations and aims to introduce it to the domestic market by the end of this year.
