Japan's hyper research center of subatomic neutrinos unveiled to press

Miyamoto Kohei, NTV Reporter / There is a vast space about 700 meters underground.

The Hyper-Kaminokande is a facility being constructed in central Japan that observes neutrinos, the smallest and lightest particles known.

The research center has a height of 94 meters and a diameter of 69 meters.

The first-generation “Kamiokande” and the “Super-Kamiokande”  currently in operation each contributed to Japanese researchers receiving Nobel Prizes in physics.

The “Hyper-Kamiokande” in construction will be eight times larger than the current one, and is expected to expand the observation capacity of neutrinos by 20 times.

The operation is expected to start in fiscal year 2028.
