Princess Kako spends summer visiting Osaka Expo and traditional craft exhibit
On September 4, Princess Kako attended an exhibit held by the Japan Kogei Association, or traditional craft association.
The niece of Emperor Naruhito has acted as president of the association since 2022 and selected 2 out of over 1,000 pieces to award.
The venue holds 545 pieces and Kako carefully looked over the pieces as she received explanations for around an hour.
S/ Princess Kako/ I feel like I’m peering at a reflection of wisteria on a pond and find it beautiful.
She asked the glass artist who won one of the awards if the piece is based on a scene she saw.
Later, Princess Kako attended the award ceremony for the exhibition.
The exhibit in Tokyo is scheduled to run until September 15 and open in other cities across Japan through the rest of the year.
Back on August 23, Princess Kako spent time at the Osaka Expo during her visit to Osaka.
The princess participated in a workshop of Tsugaru lacquerware which is a traditional craft known for its multiple layers of lacquer and beautiful patterns.
S/ Princess Kako/ Do I hold it firmly? It’s quite a strong hold.
Princess Kako used a file to bring out the pattern from beneath the lacquered layers of the coaster.
Afterwards, the princess went to the Brazil Pavilion and took an interest in an exhibit that combined the Brazilian traditional ware parangole and the Japanese robe of feathers.
Kako had made an official visit to Brazil in June to commemorate 130 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Brazil.
