Tokyo government tackles misinformation with designated hashtag
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government came to an agreement with Egypt in August to provide interested Egyptians with information on securing work in Japan.
However, misinformed netizens spread news that Tokyo was going to take in Egyptian immigrants, leading many to make inquiries with the local government.
The metropolitan government has started using the hashtag #TOKYO_CORRECT from the end of August in an attempt to tackle the spread of misinformation.
An official X account for Tokyo used the hashtag and said that the government does not intend to promote immigration or issue special visas.
A government source said that information was not being communicated well and that they hope to provide correct information with the hashtag.
