Riot police officer stabbed near US Embassy in Tokyo, suspect arrested
A male riot police officer was stabbed near the US Embassy in Tokyo on October 24.
The incident occurred as security was being reinforced days before US President Donald Trump’s visit next week.
Investigative sources said the officer with the Tokyo police approached a man who appeared to be acting suspiciously at about 2:30 p.m. on October 24.
The sources said the man then pulled a knife from his bag and attacked the officer, who sustained serious injuries to his leg but is not in life-threatening condition.
The suspect was arrested on the spot for obstructing official duties.
Authorities have cordoned off the area.
Trump is scheduled to visit Japan from October 27 to 29.
