Smartphone battery catches fire on bullet train, injures one
A smartphone battery caught fire aboard the Joetsu Shinkansen that was heading to Tokyo on August 28.
According to the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, an emergency call was made at around 8:00AM, reporting that a smartphone battery had caught fire inside the bullet train.
A male passenger noticed smoke rising from the battery inside his bag that was placed at his feet.
He sustained minor burns when he attempted to extinguish the fire by covering it with his pants.
He managed to put out the fire, and no other injuries were reported.
Some Joetsu Shinkansen services were delayed due to the fire.
