Japanese Emperor Naruhito speaks to reporters before his trip to Mongolia

Japanese Emperor Naruhito / (Empress) Masako will take care of her health and also keep in mind the history of exchange between Japan and Mongolia. We hope that the exchange and friendship between the two countries will be further deepened in the future, and we look forward to directly experiencing Mongolia's great nature, history, and culture and interacting with the Mongolian people.

The emperor made the remarks prior to his trip to Mongolia.

He also said he would like to place flowers at the cenotaph for the Japanese who died while interned in Mongolia after World War II to commemorate those who have lost their lives far away from their homeland, and to reflect on their hardships.

He also shared his memories of their visit to Mongolia in 2007. Princess Aiko, who has strong interest in sumo and Mongolia, was able to say the long real name of the 68th yokozuna sumo grand champion Asashoryu.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako will visit Mongolia from July 6 to 13.
