Broken pipe cuts off water in Okinawa, shuts down restaurants at airports
Restaurants inside Naha Airport were closed on November 25 after areas in Okinawa Prefecture braced for water shortage.
An old water pipe buried beneath a road in northern Okinawa burst on November 24, causing a leak.
The Okinawa Prefectural Public Enterprise Bureau announced that water supply from purification plants will be suspended after 4:00 PM on November 24.
It said on November 24 that when the stored water in the regulating reservoirs and distribution reservoirs runs out, outages are possible across all areas of 11 municipalities on Okinawa Island, as well as in parts of 6 other municipalities.
The Bureau is proceeding with repairs to the water pipe while working to switch the supply route.
