Japan Post suspends some mail services to US over tariffs

Japan Post said it will temporarily suspend some mail services to the United States starting August 27.
Postal items subject to the suspension are parcels containing personal gifts worth more than 100 dollars or merchandise intended for consumption.
The move came as the Trump administration has decided to terminate tariff exemptions for imports to the United States of up to 800 dollars, equivalent to about 117,000 yen, starting August 29.
Japan Post said it decided to suspend the affected services in line with national postal operators in other countries as the guidelines for new customs procedures are unclear.
