5 Chinese nationals injured in rental car-train collision in Hokkaido
On July 16, a rental car collided with a train at a railway crossing in Kamifurano, Hokkaido.
A witness called the police shortly after 5:30 p.m. to report the collision between a train and a white minivan.
The accident occurred at a railroad crossing on the JR Furano Line between Kami-Furano and Bibaushi stations.
According to police and fire department officials, the vehicle was a rental car, and the two men and three women inside it were taken to hospital after sustaining minor injuries.
They said the five car passengers are Chinese nationals, consisting of family members and friends ranging in age from their teens to 50s.
The two-car train involved in the collision was carrying about 100 passengers and crew members at the time.
No one aboard the train was injured.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
