Uniqlo's Japan sales surpass 1 trillion yen for first time

Casualwear retailer Uniqlo’s domestic sales surpassed 1 trillion yen for the first time.

Uniqlo operator Fast Retailing said on October 9 that the clothing stores’ sales in Japan from September 2024 to August this year totaled 1,026,000,000,000 yen, up 10.1 percent from the previous business year.

The company attributed the increase to product offerings tailored to the prolonged heatwave and other climate conditions as well as a rise in purchases by tourists from abroad.

Fast Retailing said its total sales during its business year through August 31 came to more than 3.4 trillion yen, marking a record high for the fourth consecutive year.

However, the company continued to struggle in China due to sluggish consumer spending amid an economic slowdown, resulting in decreased sales and profit in Chinese markets.

For the current business year, Fast Retailing expects to achieve increased global sales and profit for the fifth year in a row.
