Store clerk confronts knife-wielding man in attempted robbery, suspect at large
A security camera captured footage of a man parking his motorcycle and entering a convenience store in Fukuyama, Hiroshima Prefecture in western Japan at about 3 a.m. on October 14.
He was dressed entirely in black and wearing a ski mask in an apparent effort to hide his face.
S/ NNN Reporter / Police investigations are ongoing after a robber entered the store early this morning.
According to police, there were no customers in the store at the time.
The only person there was a 71-year-old male store clerk.
The masked man entered and went up to the clerk without saying anything.
He then thrust what appeared to be a knife at him.
The clerk resisted and shouted out.
About 40 seconds after the man entered the store, the security footage shows him walking backward toward the door, with one arm extended in front of him.
As he backed out of the store, he can be seen thrusting the knife-like object toward the clerk twice.
When the clerk raised his right hand, the man turned around and ran.
The clerk chased after him, but the man escaped on a motorcycle.
About four hours after the incident, the store manager reported what happened to the police.
Surveillance footage shows the perpetrator holding a sharp object, but he does not appear to have taken any merchandise from the store.
The store clerk was not injured, and there was no damage to the store in the attempted robbery.
The culprit remains at large.

The police are checking surveillance cameras in the direction in which the armed man fled to track his whereabouts.
