New US envoy to Japan presents credentials to Emperor Naruhito

New US Ambassador to Japan George Glass arrived at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo on the morning of July 17.

Glass greeted an Imperial Household Agency official in charge of the ensuing ceremony and posed for commemorative photos with him.

The occasion was for the envoy to hand Emperor Naruhito his credentials as US ambassador to Japan issued by US President Donald Trump.

Trump, who took office for his second presidency in January, appointed Glass as ambassador to Japan in April to replace Rahm Emanuel.

Glass, who has a business background, served as US ambassador to Portugal from 2017 to 2021 during Trump's first term.
