Bear attacks on the rise in northern Japan this summer

A resident heard a noise outside and found a bear in the yard.

The resident said the bear stood there for 10 minutes without moving.

This footage was filmed on July 10 in the town of Fukushima in Hokkaido, northern Japan.

A bear was also seen in the town around three hours earlier.

This bear was running through a nearby area.

Two days later, on July 12, a 52-year-old newspaper delivery man was fatally attacked by a bear in this town.

A bear was also suspected of going through residents’ trash.

S/ Reporter/ Trash has been rifled through today as well. It’s been scattered. 

A patrol police found that the supermarket’s trash collection site was scattered on July 14.

The door of the trash site was broken.

Two types of bear pawprints have been confirmed in the area.

In Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture, there was another bear incident.

An apple farmer in her 70s was attacked by a bear from behind while taking a break at the farm.

The bear injured the woman’s right eye and arm.

The bear ran and escaped after attacking the woman.

The city and local police are patrolling the area and calling on residents to be cautious.
