Fans bid emotional farewell to beloved pandas at Wakayama
The final day started an hour earlier than usual.
NNN Reporter / The park opened, and visitors are rushing in.
About 1,400 people lined up and rushed inside as soon as Wakayama Adventure World opened.
Giant Panda Saihin was opening its legs and lying down.
Some people were crying seeing her.
Giant Panda Rauhin would be in her 70s if she were a human.
It was also the last chance to see her in the large-scale zoo in Wakayama.
Most of the panda fans that gathered this day were dressed in black.
It shows their efforts to prevent their reflection showing on the glasses when they take pictures of pandas.
Panda lovers waited outside for at least an hour to have the last glimpse of the beloved stars.
Visitor / I’m speechless. I loved the pandas as much as my family and children.
Visitor / I just want to thank them.
Visitor / I’ve always loved the pandas but I never had the chance to see them. I thought today would be my last chance since they’re returning to China.
Visitor / I wished for their well-being. I’m sure they’ll get a lot of bamboo and other delicious stuff in China, so they’ll definitely be happy. I told them that they’ll be fine.
Visitor / I want to see them again. I want to go see them. I’ll miss them so much.
About 300 people, including fans and zoo staff, sent off 4 Giant Pandas — Rauhin, Yuihin, Saihin and Fuhin — on June 28.
Some visitors were tearing up seeing the empty cases and equipment that the popular mammals used to play with.
According to the zoo, the pandas seemed slightly restless in the cage, but had no issues with their health condition.
Keepers and fans saw off the pandas on a chartered flight that headed to China.
Fans / Be well.
Fan / All the memories flooded back to me when the plane departed.
Fan / I was thinking that they’re really going somewhere so far away. I thanked them for everything, and I wished for their happiness and long-lasting well-being.
