Worlds oldest fossil of dome-headed dinosaur discovered in Mongolia

The world’s oldest fossil of pachycephalosaur, commonly known as a dome-headed dinosaur, was discovered in Mongolia’s Gobi Desert.

The discovery was made by an international research team that includes Fukushima Museum curator Yoshida Junki.

The fossil is a new species of the dome-headed dinosaur that researchers have named Zavacephale rinpoche.

The near complete skeletal remains were found in the Early Cretaceous strata from around 110 million years ago.

Very little information is known about what the dome-headed dino looked like in its lifetime, making it a mysterious group of dinosaurs.

The Fukushima Museum located in Aizuwakamatsu, Fukushima Prefecture in northeastern Japan is currently displaying a replica of the fossil.
